South African Airways (SAA) has issued a Request for Information (RFI GSM005/2026) to gather market intelligence on premium lounge buffetware, crockery, and serviceware for its lounge network. The RFI is a market-sounding exercise. It is designed to help SAA identify capable suppliers, assess available product ranges, and establish indicative pricing, minimum order quantities, and lead times before developing detailed specifications for a possible future competitive procurement. The RFI explicitly states that it is not a Request for Quotation or Request for Proposal, and that it does not commit SAA to contracting with any respondent. No award will be made from this process, although respondents may be invited to the subsequent RFP.
The scope covers a broad range of hospitality equipment for breakfast, all-day dining, peak-period replenishment, and premium events. Categories include cold and hot buffetware (salad bowls, platters, chafing and induction-compatible warmers, soup kettles), bakery and pastry displays, serving utensils, utensil supports, beverage serviceware, signage and labelling, and décor elements. The crockery range includes dinner, side, soup and cereal bowls, coffee, espresso and cappuccino cups with saucers, and sachet holders. All items must be commercial-grade, durable, dishwasher- and microwave-safe where applicable, and suitable for high-traffic airport environments. Suppliers must also meet food-contact safety requirements, provide sustainability evidence (recycled content, responsible sourcing, certifications), and disclose warranties, expected service life, and spare-parts availability. Indicative estimated annual quantities are provided, ranging from several thousand dinner and side plates to smaller volumes of specialist items such as cheese boards, cake lifters and ice crushers. SAA also seeks options for branding, colour matching and bespoke finishes, along with information on integration with existing equipment and dishwashing workflows.
Responses must be submitted in English with all prices in South African rand, and should include company profile, product catalogues and specifications, compliance certificates, commercial terms (VAT-inclusive and exclusive pricing, volume breaks, MOQs, delivery charges), supply and support details, and at least three comparable client references. Physical samples are not required, although respondents may offer digital or physical review material at their own cost. Questions must be emailed to the SAA contact by 28 October 2026, and completed responses must be submitted by email to saatenders@flysaa.com by 16:00 (GMT+2) on 3 November 2026. The RFI is a valuable opportunity for suppliers to shape SAA's future specifications and to position themselves for the subsequent RFP, which may be restricted to RFI respondents.
