South Cape TVET College is seeking a qualified service provider to conduct structural testing on the concrete floor slabs at its Central Office in George, Western Cape. The first-floor slab was found to have cracks following renovations and is believed to require reinforcement. The College also wants the second-floor slab assessed to determine whether it is in good condition and safe to support the building, or whether it too needs strengthening. The work forms part of a Request for Quotation (RFQ AB 30/2026), with a closing date of 3 November 2026 at 11:00.
The scope of work includes Schmidt hammer rebound testing and concrete scanning using ground-penetrating radar (GPR), along with 150mm diameter core drilling. Where drilling encounters steel reinforcement, the contractor must carry out extra drilling through the steel. Cores must be trimmed, capped, cured and tested for compressive strength. The provider must then deliver a detailed NDT test report, make good all areas disturbed by testing, and dispose of all material resulting from the work. Where necessary, the provider must also supply design details and a detailed report for slab strengthening. The pricing schedule is based on a 100m² test area and covers site establishment, equipment, travel and overnight accommodation, reporting, technician and assistant time, and VAT at 15%. The building remains occupied, so the contractor must take care to minimise disruption and protect people and property. No site briefing is required. The contract is expected to be completed over three working days between 07:30 and 16:00 on weekdays. Delivery is to the Central Office, 125 Mitchell Street, George.
Bidders must submit a valid tax compliance PIN or certificate, a CSD registration number, a company registration or CIPC document, a BBBEE verification certificate or sworn affidavit, proof of a current municipal account or lease agreement, a declaration of interest, and one or two reference letters confirming successful completion of previous slab scanning and testing work.
