Eradication of Invasive Alien Plants NEW

Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) is inviting proposals from experienced service providers for the eradication of invasive alien plants at the Port of Durban. The project aims to control and remove species that threaten biodiversity and ecological integrity, in compliance with South African environmental legislation. Service providers must demonstrate their expertise in alien vegetation management, provide a valid Pest Control Operators certificate, and submit a comprehensive method statement outlining their approach to eradication and rehabilitation of affected areas.

The successful bidder will be responsible for conducting a baseline survey, implementing a clearing plan, and ensuring the replanting of indigenous species. Regular progress reports, including mapped areas of cleared vegetation, will be required. The project not only seeks to restore the natural ecosystem but also to comply with legal obligations under the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act and the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the ecological balance and operational efficiency of the port.
