Appointment of a registered service provider for integrated pest control at multiple SABS sites across South Africa for 36 months. Scope includes monthly treatments, rodent and insect control, quarterly snake-control, and reporting, with ad hoc call-outs on purchase order.
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ 202128) to appoint a suitably qualified and registered service provider to deliver pest control services at its designated sites for a period of thirty-six (36) months. The objective is to maintain effective pest management and a safe, hygienic, pest-free environment across SABS premises. The service provider must supply all labour, supervision, equipment, materials, chemicals, and reporting, and must deliver services in accordance with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles and all applicable health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
The contract covers six sites: Groenkloof in Pretoria (approximately 152,973 m², including a GMP-compliant Pharmaceutical Laboratory of approximately 414 m² requiring SABS-approved chemical products and audit support), Cape Town (approximately 2,119 m²), Durban (approximately 2,497 m²), East London (approximately 4,244 m²), Richards Bay (approximately 625 m²), and Secunda (approximately 8,111 m²). Common services at all sites include routine monitoring and treatment of rodents, cockroaches, ants, flies, and crawling insects, servicing of pest control devices, preventative and corrective treatments, waste area monitoring, and record keeping. Site-specific requirements include gecko control in Durban, tick and bat control and quarterly snake-control treatments in East London, bi-monthly tunnel servicing and enhanced waste monitoring at Groenkloof, and enhanced fly control and special attention to dog kennels in Secunda, which is adjacent to a game reserve. Service frequencies vary: monthly services are standard, with weekly monitoring in designated high-risk areas, bi-monthly servicing in designated areas, quarterly snake-control treatments, and ad hoc or emergency call-outs issued only upon receipt of an official SABS purchase order.
Key requirements include CSD registration, a valid B-BBBEE certificate or sworn affidavit, completed SBD 4 (Bidder Disclosure) and SBD 6.1 (Preference Points Claim) forms, and public liability insurance of at least R5 million for the contract duration. Bidders must demonstrate that all chemicals and treatments are applied according to manufacturer specifications and legislation, use PPE and carry a suitably stocked first aid kit, prioritise environmentally responsible products, and protect animals, including guard dogs and kennel operations, from undue risk. Any animal exposure incident must be reported immediately, with a written report within two working days. The service provider must also submit quarterly performance reports covering pest activity trends, corrective actions, significant interventions, and improvement recommendations. Pricing must be submitted as a monthly rate per site, including VAT, with transport and disbursements where applicable. Evaluation uses the 80/20 preference point system (80 points for price, 20 for specific goals). Submissions must be emailed to Lethabo.Nedondwe@sabs.co.za by 11:00 on 2 November 2026, with no late submissions accepted. SABS does not make advance payments, and payment is made only upon delivery of services.
Registered pest control companies with proven experience in multi-site commercial or institutional contracts, particularly in laboratory, food, or sensitive environments. Applicants should hold the required pest control and chemical handling licences or registrations, CSD registration, and public liability insurance of at least R5 million. Businesses with the capacity to serve sites across Gauteng, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and Mpumalanga, and able to meet GMP-compliant and animal-safe requirements, are best suited. B-BBEE-certified companies, especially Black-owned, Black women-owned, or disability-owned enterprises, may benefit from preference points under the 80/20 system.
