What these tenders cover
Most public-sector occupational health work falls into a few kinds of contract: medical surveillance for workers exposed to noise, dust or chemicals; pre-employment, periodic and exit medicals; occupational hygiene surveys; on-site clinics; and employee health and wellness programmes. Contracts usually run for two to three years, often across several sites or a whole province.
Why they are hard to find
eTenders files most of this work under broad categories such as professional services, so searching the portal for "occupational health" misses a lot of it. Buyers also describe the same job in different ways: an "employee wellness programme", "medical surveillance services" or an "OHS service provider". This page matches all of those wordings against tender titles, so you see them together.
What buyers usually ask for
Expect to need a valid CSD registration, a tax compliance status PIN and a B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit. Clinical staff must be registered with the HPCSA or the SANC, and many bids ask for proof of similar contracts, CVs of the occupational medical practitioner and nurses, and a plan for covering every site named in the specification. Read the briefing notes closely: some contracts make a site visit compulsory.
