National Key Point Security Services

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is inviting bids for the appointment of a registered National Key Point security service provider to ensure the safety and security of its facilities located in the Karoo, near Carnarvon, for a duration of five years. The successful bidder will be responsible for providing a full-time security presence across multiple deployment points, including the SKA Site Complex, Klerefontein Engineering Operations Centre, and various accommodation and training facilities. This includes managing access control, conducting regular patrols, and implementing emergency response protocols.

Bidders must demonstrate extensive experience in providing security services, particularly in environments classified as National Key Points. Compliance with the applicable legislation, including the National Key Points Act and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act, is mandatory. The tender also requires a focus on local employment, with a preference for hiring personnel from the surrounding communities. The appointed service provider will play a crucial role in safeguarding critical scientific infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity, and contributing to the overall safety of the site, which is vital for national and international research initiatives.
