Pump Set Refurbishment and Commissioning NEW

Rand Water, South Africa's largest bulk water utility, has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ 10414239) for the complete refurbishment, installation, alignment and commissioning of Pump Set 1 at its Trichardt pump station. The equipment is a KSB ETA 150-50 pump rated at 7.5 Ml/d, 80 m generated head, 98.45 kW guaranteed demand, 68.90% guaranteed efficiency and 1485 RPM. The work must be carried out in accordance with Rand Water and OEM specifications. Scope includes supply and installation of a new shaft (if required after assessment), new shaft sleeve and wear rings, inspection and possible replacement of the impeller, replacement of all gaskets, new gland packing, and a new full pump-and-motor coupling. The casing must be inspected and, if worn, coated with Belzona, although this is condition-dependent. The rotating element must be balanced to ISO 1940/1 Grade G2.5. Spares to be supplied include bearing sets, gasket kits, a shaft with sleeve, and a full coupling. Pricing is requested as a Bill of Quantities covering refurbishment, installation and alignment, commissioning, and performance testing, with an estimated contract award on or before 30 November 2026.

Performance testing is a critical requirement. The contractor must conduct a works test with water in accordance with SANS 9906:2016 Edition 2 (Grade 1), across flow rates from 0.8 to 1.2 QG, in the presence of a Rand Water representative. The pump characteristic, power demand and efficiency curves must be submitted, and the pump may not be dispatched to site until Rand Water has accepted the results in writing. Efficiency must be at least 0.972 of the guaranteed value, subject to the stated tolerances. Test costs are for the contractor's account. Installation requires at least three days' notice so that Rand Water's Mechanical department can attend. The contractor must submit a safety file to the Central Depot Risk department, complete induction at the Central Depot in Eikenhof, and wear appropriate PPE. The site is approximately 170 km from the depot. Bidders must also meet the mandatory returnable requirements, including CIDB registration, a Letter of Good Standing (COIDA), a tax-compliant SBD 4 and SBD 6.1, a detailed project programme, and evidence of similar past experience.

The contract is evaluated on an 80/20 preference point system, with functionality as a gate at 70 out of 100 points. Functionality criteria cover previous related experience, human resource capacity, equipment capacity, and project programme, each weighted at 25 points. The tender is well suited to a specialist pump refurbishment contractor that can demonstrate OEM-aligned workshop capability, precision balancing, and witnessed performance testing. Successful delivery will restore the reliability of a key bulk water pumping asset, supporting Rand Water's supply to Gauteng and surrounding municipalities.
