Seeking a service provider to conduct a feasibility study for an Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Programme across six South African municipalities and develop a funding proposal for the Green Climate Fund.
The Development Bank of Southern Africa is inviting qualified service providers to submit Expressions of Interest for the development of a comprehensive feasibility study for the Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Programme. This initiative targets six municipalities: Buffalo City, uMhlathuze, Steve Tshwete, Newcastle, Rustenburg, and Mbombela. The selected provider will conduct technical, environmental, social, and financial assessments to prepare a full funding proposal for submission to the Green Climate Fund. Key tasks include evaluating existing waste management systems, identifying scalable waste diversion solutions, and conducting stakeholder engagement and climate impact assessments.
The feasibility study aims to transform waste management practices by promoting waste diversion from landfills through improved collection, recycling, and organic waste treatment solutions. The project will also integrate informal waste reclaimers into the municipal systems, ensuring social inclusion and sustainability. The successful provider will deliver detailed reports, including environmental and social assessments, financial models, and a comprehensive funding proposal package, all designed to align with international climate finance standards and support South Africa's transition towards a circular economy.
This tender is suitable for consulting firms, NGOs, and consortia with expertise in municipal solid waste management, environmental assessments, and climate finance. Businesses with a proven track record in feasibility studies and experience with the Green Climate Fund are encouraged to apply.
