Eskom is inviting offers to purchase, collect and remove three scrapped MVA transformers (35 MVA, 25 MVA and 2.5 MVA) at its Mthatha Zimbane Warehouse. Successful bidders must pay upfront, collect within 7 working days, and leave the site clean. A compulsory site visit on 28 October 2026 is required.
Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, through its Investment Recovery section, is inviting offers to purchase, collect and remove three scrapped MVA transformers located at the Mthatha Zimbane Warehouse in the Eastern Cape. The lots comprise one 35 MVA unit, one 25 MVA unit and one 2.5 MVA unit. Each transformer is auctioned separately, and the final price is determined through an e-auction, with the rand price calculated on the final bid price excluding VAT. Bids close on 30 October 2026 at 10:00 AM, and offers are valid for 90 days from the closing date. Eskom gives no guarantee or warranty on the condition or workability of the equipment, so bidders are expected to inspect the units at the site before tendering.
The successful bidder must pay Eskom in full for each allocated unit within five days of the sale date and collect all units within 7 working days of the approved work instruction. Release of the scrap is conditional on receipt of payment and the buyer obtaining a permit to remove and transport the material. The purchaser is responsible for the safe dismantling, rigging, handling, loading and transport of the transformers, including supplying qualified labour, certified plant, machinery, equipment and transport. Transformer oil must be handled and transported in line with hazardous waste regulations, and any oil spills must be remediated by the contractor. The site must be left clean and free of rubble, and portable fire-fighting equipment must be available during cutting and dismantling operations. Work must comply with the OHS Act 85 of 1993 and Eskom's site, SHE and environmental requirements, and no accommodation will be permitted on site.
Attendance at a compulsory clarification and site viewing meeting on 28 October 2026 at 11:00 AM is mandatory; tenderers who do not attend will not be evaluated. Bidders must also submit a valid SARS tax clearance certificate, a B-BBEE affidavit or verification certificate (20% evaluation weighting), a second-hand goods certificate from SAPS or a licensee, a CIPRO registration, director ID copies, CSD registration, a valid COIDA letter of good standing, SBD 4 and integrity declarations, and technical and SHEQ documentation including an OHS plan, baseline risk assessment, environmental management programme and waste management plan. Submissions must be made by email to Informaltendering@eskom.co.za using the enquiry number as the only subject line text, with all files in PDF format. Late submissions will not be accepted. Eskom is not responsible for losses or injuries during removal, and the award is subject to technical evaluation and site inspection.
Registered scrap dealers and recyclers holding a valid second-hand goods licence, with heavy-lift rigging, transport and hazardous waste capability, and the financial capacity to pay upfront. Businesses must have a valid tax clearance, B-BBEE status, COIDA good standing and the required SHE and environmental documentation. Eastern Cape-based or nearby scrap businesses with a permit for transporting hazardous materials are best placed to respond, and the compulsory site visit makes local proximity practical.
