Eskom seeks information on used or surplus 200-500MW steam plant, including boilers, turbines, and flue gas cleaning technology. Responses must detail plant condition, operating history, emissions performance, and indicative pricing. Relevant to brokers, equipment suppliers, and plant owners with coal-fired surplus assets.
Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd has issued a Request for Information (RFI) under reference E3747GXMWP for the possible supply of used or surplus entire steam plant in the 200-500MW output range. This RFI is a stand-alone information-gathering and market-testing exercise. It does not constitute a binding procurement, and Eskom may later decide whether to proceed with a formal tender process. The package of interest comprises the boiler, turbine, heat rejection plant, boiler feed pumps, mills and outside plant including balance of plant, with flue gas cleaning technology included as part of the package.
Respondents are required to provide detailed technical and commercial information. Key requirements include the location of the plant and its commercial operation date, reasons for cessation of operation, and whether the plant is available for inspection or has already been dismantled. Respondents must also disclose operating history, maintenance records, performance data, failures, warranty claims, refurbishments, and the design coal specification (calorific value and ultimate analysis). Eskom asks for a state-of-plant report where available, identification of any non-OEM parts used during outages, OEM details for major components, cooling technology (wet or dry), the design standard applied (for example ASME or Chinese standards), and the emissions reduction technology for NOx, SOx and particulate matter, with design values in ppm or mg/Nm³ at a stated oxygen percentage.
Commercially, respondents must state the selling price in USD or ZAR. Brokers or intermediaries must disclose their commission as a percentage of the selling price. Respondents offering construction services must provide estimated or complete costs for dismantling, erection and commissioning in Mpumalanga, South Africa, along with estimated shipping costs from the current plant location to South Africa. Submissions must be uploaded electronically via the Eskom eTendering portal by 10:00 SAST on 30 November 2026, in PDF and/or Excel format, following the supplier e-tendering manual. Resubmissions replace earlier versions entirely, and all clarification queries must be directed to the nominated Eskom representative, Nokuthula Ntshingila, at NtshinNo@eskom.co.za. Suppliers must register on the eTendering system with a CSD number before submitting.
Brokers and intermediaries dealing in used or surplus power plant equipment; decommissioned power station owners and asset disposal companies; equipment suppliers and OEM-aligned refurbishment specialists; and engineering, dismantling, shipping and commissioning contractors with experience in large coal-fired plant. Businesses without access to such assets or relevant experience in heavy power generation equipment are unlikely to be suitable. Note that this is an information request rather than a contract opportunity, and it is open to the public with a valid CSD number.
