Transnet Pipelines requires supply, installation, and commissioning of one 24,000 BTU Carrier split-unit air conditioner compressor at its Sasolburg control room. Work includes all labour, materials, testing, and a Certificate of Compliance, with a 52-week warranty. Bidders must hold a CIDB grading of 1ME or higher.
Transnet Pipelines, an operating division of Transnet SOC Ltd, is seeking a qualified contractor to supply, install, and commission one compressor unit for a Carrier air conditioner at its control room at the Sasolburg Operations site (Cnr Henry & Bergius Street, Sasolburg). The specified equipment is a Carrier 24 BUT indoor unit (Model 42QH036N) paired with an outdoor unit (Model 38QHM036N), rated 220-240V, 50Hz, single phase. The scope is quoted as a fixed price covering all travel, accommodation, labour, supervision, tools, testing devices, equipment, and installation. Notably, the RFQ describes the unit as 12,000 BTU in its title but 24,000 BTU in the scope of works, so bidders should clarify the capacity at the compulsory clarification meeting.
The contractor is responsible for site clearing and removing old parts and refrigerant, providing a Certificate of Compliance under the Pressure Equipment Regulations and a separate Certificate of Compliance for the electrical work, and complying with SANS standards, the OHS Act, and Transnet Pipelines' safety, health, and environmental requirements. Work includes installing the outdoor unit at height, so working-at-heights controls are mandatory. Site electrical supply is 230V with a 63A primary breaker, and the contractor must provide its own circuit breaker for the split unit. Work must be carried out during normal hours (Monday to Friday, 07:30-16:00) unless otherwise agreed, and the network control centre remains operational throughout. A 52-week warranty applies from installation, covering parts, labour, and travel.
Eligibility requires attendance at a compulsory clarification and site meeting on the advertised date at 10:00 (tenderers must bring the signed T2.2-01 attendance certificate), CIDB registration with a grading of 1ME or higher, a valid B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit, tax compliance (TCS PIN), CSD registration, a Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund, and completed compulsory returnable schedules. The evaluation applies the 80/20 preference point system, with 80 points for price and up to 10 points for B-BBEE status. Tenders close at 16:00 on the closing date through the Transnet e-Tender Submission Portal, and late submissions will not be accepted. Tender validity is 12 weeks.
Suitable for registered CIDB contractors with a grading of 1ME or higher in mechanical or HVAC work, particularly refrigeration and air-conditioning contractors with SARACCA membership and electrical certification capability. Small and medium enterprises, including EMEs and QSEs with strong B-BBEE credentials, are well placed given the preference point system. Businesses must be able to attend the compulsory site meeting in Sasolburg, work at height safely, and provide the required Certificates of Compliance. Companies without HVAC installation experience or without CIDB registration should not apply.
