Stage Machinery and Rigging Training

The South African State Theatre (SAST), a Schedule 3A public entity under the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ reference SAST/RFQ/2026/485) for the appointment of a service provider to deliver Stage Machinery and Rigging Training for six employees. The training is to be delivered in person at SAST's premises at 320 Pretorius Street, Pretoria. The core mandate of SAST is to provide performance spaces for the performing arts sector, and this training supports the safe and competent operation of the theatre's upper and lower stage machinery and rigging systems.

The prescribed course content covers stage rigging and fly systems, counterweight systems and their operation, safety standards for rigging and lifting, maintenance of stage machinery, set movement and automation, and load calculations and risk management. The appointed provider must be accredited by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and registered with CATHSSETA or TETA, or another relevant body. Upon completion, the provider must issue a certificate of competency to each participant. Breakfast and lunch must also be served to all six trainees.

Bidders must demonstrate personnel experience in servicing, maintaining, repairing, or training on upper and lower stage machinery and rigging systems, supported by comprehensive CVs. They must also submit at least two contactable reference letters or purchase orders, on letterhead and not older than five years, for similar work. Evaluation proceeds in four phases: administrative compliance (including CSD registration, valid SARS tax PIN, CIPC documents, B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit, and signed SBD forms), mandatory requirements, technical specification compliance, and finally price (80 points) and specific goals (20 points). Bidders must be CSD-registered and provide an official quote on company letterhead. Pricing is quoted per item for six participants, inclusive of 15% VAT, with validity for at least 120 days after the closing date of 2 November 2026.
