Appointment of a service provider to conduct quarterly inspections, yearly load testing, certification and maintenance of lifting equipment at SABS sites in Groenkloof, Secunda, Cape Town and East London over 36 months. Compliance with applicable South African regulations is required.
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is seeking a qualified service provider to inspect, load test, certify and maintain lifting equipment across four of its facilities: Groenkloof (Pretoria), Secunda NETFA, Cape Town and East London. The contract covers a period of 36 months and requires the appointed provider to carry out quarterly inspections, annual load testing, formal certification of all equipment, and ongoing maintenance, all in accordance with applicable South African occupational health and safety requirements and relevant lifting equipment regulations.
The scope of work includes periodic inspection of all lifting equipment at each site to identify defects, wear and safety risks; annual load testing to verify that equipment performs within its rated capacity; issuance of certificates of compliance that meet statutory requirements; and corrective and preventive maintenance to keep equipment safe and operational. Providers are expected to maintain accurate inspection records, report non-conformances promptly, and recommend repairs or decommissioning where equipment fails to meet safety standards. Coordination with SABS site management to minimise disruption to operations is also expected.
The appointment offers a multi-year, multi-site contract that provides stable, recurring revenue for a provider with the technical capability and geographic reach to serve all four locations. Successful bidders will contribute directly to workplace safety at a national standards institution, strengthening their credentials for future public sector and industrial work. Bidders should review the full RFP 202030 document, including the mandatory SBD 4 declaration, CSD registration requirements, and any technical or experience criteria, before submitting a bid.
Certified lifting equipment inspection and testing companies, engineering inspection bodies, and industrial maintenance contractors with recognised accreditation for crane, hoist and lifting gear testing. Businesses must be registered on the Central Supplier Database (CSD), hold valid tax compliance status, and be able to demonstrate national or multi-regional coverage to service all four SABS sites. Companies without statutory inspection competence or relevant accreditation should not apply.
