SANParks seeks a service provider for five years to supply, install, repair and maintain internet-based automated weather stations at the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park, including annual airtime subscriptions and parts. Bidders must be authorised agents of iWeathar and Davis, with proof of certification attached.
South African National Parks (SANParks) has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ 29054B/GRNP/2026-27) for the provision of repairs, maintenance, supply and installation of weather stations at the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park, for a contract period of five years. SANParks currently operates eight internet-based weather stations that provide live weather data with online login functionality. These stations form part of the Park Management Risk Management system, supporting decision-making on flood and fire risk, so timely repairs, routine servicing and rapid turnaround on faults are critical to avoid loss or interruption of data. The number of stations may increase as additional funding becomes available.
The appointed service provider will be responsible for paying annual airtime subscriptions for the weather stations, supplying replacement parts and carrying out repairs, with proof of cost for parts required on invoices. The provider must also supply and install new automated weather stations on approval. Specified equipment includes iWeathar Grande and Tornado units with integrated wind, temperature, humidity, rainfall, barometric pressure and solar radiation sensors, a Davis rain collector, a built-in cellular modem (UMTS/HSPA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE), solar panel and lithium-ion battery, with uploads every 10 minutes and a flood-alert mode at 3-minute intervals during heavy rainfall. Installation sites include Buffelskop, Corneliuskop, Farleigh, Touw River, Rondevlei, Goudveld, Scientific Services Addo and Knysna. Infield services are not required from the provider, as SANParks conducts routine maintenance and site repairs in-house, but telephonic technical support for infield problem solving is expected.
Mandatory requirements include proof that the bidder is an authorised agent of both iWeathar and Davis, valid CSD registration, a valid SARS tax compliance PIN, a completed SBD 1, SBD 4 and SBD 6.1 with pricing schedule, and a 90-day bid validity period. Submissions must be emailed to GRNP.RFQS@sanparks.org by 11:00 AM on 9 November 2026, and late or incorrectly submitted bids will not be considered. Payment will be made within 30 days of invoice receipt in accordance with the PFMA. Preference points are allocated on an 80/20 or 90/10 basis, with up to 10 points for B-BBEE status and additional points for local suppliers within the Eden District Municipality. This opportunity offers a long-term, recurring revenue stream for suppliers with specialised environmental monitoring expertise and manufacturer authorisation.
Authorised iWeathar and Davis Instruments agents or dealers with technical expertise in automated weather monitoring, telemetry and environmental sensor systems. Suitable for specialist scientific equipment suppliers, IT and telemetry service providers, and technical maintenance firms able to offer rapid fault response and parts supply in the Garden Route region. Local businesses within the Eden District Municipality may benefit from additional preference points. Small and medium enterprises with valid B-BBEE certificates or sworn affidavits are also encouraged to apply.
