Eskom (Distribution GEMMA Cluster) is seeking market information on integrated online condition monitoring for 66kV to 132kV power transformers and HV circuit breakers. Respondents should outline sensors, IoT devices, communication protocols, dashboards and costs. This is an information-gathering RFI, not a binding tender.
Eskom Distribution (GEMMA Cluster) is investigating an integrated online condition monitoring solution for power transformers and high-voltage circuit breakers rated 66 kV to 132 kV. The goal is to consolidate condition, operational and diagnostic data from multiple sensors and monitoring devices into a single platform, dashboard and/or asset health index. This would give near real-time visibility of critical plant condition and support a shift from largely time-based and reactive maintenance toward condition-based and predictive asset management. This Request for Information (RFI), reference E3799DXNCOU, is a market-testing and information-gathering exercise. It does not commit Eskom to any purchase, pilot or procurement, and it does not replace or impede any current or future procurement process.
For power transformers, the solution is expected to integrate parameters such as dissolved gas analysis (DGA), moisture and oil condition, thermal and insulation ageing, loading, on-load tap changer (OLTC) condition and operations, bushing condition, partial discharge, cooling-system performance, temperatures, oil level and pressure, and associated alarms and maintenance indicators. For HV circuit breakers, respondents should address monitoring of operating counters, opening and closing times, operating speeds and contact travel, spring-charging mechanisms, trip and close coils, electrical contact resistance, and SF6 gas-system parameters. Eskom wants to understand which parameters can be measured or calculated continuously online, which sensors, IoT devices and communication protocols are required, and whether the data can be presented in a common user interface. Evaluation criteria include real-time monitoring, trending, diagnostics, alarms, analytics, automated reporting, early warning of deterioration, solution maturity, integration capability, and the cost of individual functions and the total integrated solution.
Respondents must complete the Part B response sheet, covering contact details, company registration number, previous experience, a description of the proposed solution, optional indicative prices and any comments. The scope of work is set out in an accompanying Excel workbook, which must be completed and submitted in both Excel and PDF format together with the signed RFI document. Submissions must be uploaded electronically to the Eskom e-tendering site (https://etendering.eskom.co.za) by 10:00 South African Standard Time on 07 December 2026. Zipped or compressed files are not accepted, hard copies are not accepted, and only the latest submitted version will be considered. Bidders should note that all information submitted is non-confidential and may be used by Eskom without acknowledgement or compensation, so sensitive or proprietary information should not be included. Queries should be directed to Annelize Kruger (Senior Advisor, Procurement) at krugera@eskom.co.za. All costs of responding are borne by the respondent.
This RFI is best suited to manufacturers, OEMs, and solution providers of online condition monitoring systems for power transformers and HV circuit breakers, including DGA, partial discharge, bushing, OLTC and SF6 monitoring specialists. It is also relevant to IoT and sensor technology companies, industrial communications and SCADA integrators, and asset-health analytics and dashboard software providers with experience in high-voltage utility assets. Businesses without a monitoring technology or HV utility track record are unlikely to find it relevant. Responding is free of obligation, but interested parties should prepare a complete PDF and Excel submission on time and avoid including confidential information.
