Supply, delivery and on-site assembly of office furniture and appliances, including chairs, boardroom and conference tables, desks, cupboards, sofas, steel shelving, fridges and microwaves, for the new iLembe District Office in KwaZulu-Natal. Closes 17 November 2026.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure invites registered suppliers to submit quotations under Bid No. ZNTD 01/08/2026 for the appointment of a service provider to procure, deliver and assemble new office furniture and appliances for the new iLembe District Office. The scope covers a full furnishing package for the new facility, comprising around 300 office chairs in several specifications (148 big and tall high-back swivel chairs, 70 black and 2 beige visitor armchairs, 1 beige big and tall chair and 100 black banquet side chairs). It also includes six 18-seater and six 20-seater boardroom tables, a barrel-shaped or bow-front conference table, two coffee tables, 50 folding training tables, 10 round conference tables, executive and managerial desks with credenzas, filing and stationery cupboards, mahogany and melamine wall units, leather waiting-area couches and occasional chairs, 50 open steel shelving units, 20 two-compartment lockers, four 321L fridges and four 40L microwaves. A transport, delivery and assembly line item is included. All furniture must be delivered and assembled by the supplier at the iLembe District Office. The total indicative bid value on the pricing schedule is R4,241,850.18 including 15% VAT, after a 10% mark-up. Delivery is required within one month of receiving a purchase order, and the offer must remain valid for 90 days from the closing date.
Bidders must meet strict pre-qualification requirements. In Phase 1, bids must be correct and complete, and the bidder must be registered on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) and must quote for all items on the pricing schedule. In Phase 2, which results in immediate disqualification if not met, bidders must provide proof of working capital of at least 10% of the project value, supported by a bank letter or a three-month bank statement that is no older than three months, and at least three letters from furniture distributors or merchants confirming a combined credit facility of R500,000. The evaluation uses the 80/20 preference point system, with 80 points for price and 20 points for specific goals. Bidders can claim the 20 specific-goal points through a sworn affidavit confirming black ownership as an Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME) or Qualifying Small Enterprise (QSE). Other requirements include a valid Tax Compliance Status PIN, a compulsory briefing session at the iLembe District Office on 9 November 2026 at 10:30, and a risk assessment before award. The department may also award to a bidder other than the lowest priced, and the awarded bidder will undergo a vetting process. Responsive bidders are required to host the evaluation team at their showrooms for a quality assessment of the furniture.
Submissions must be delivered in person to the tender box at the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, eThekwini Regional Office, 455A King Cetshwayo Highway, Mayville, Durban, by 11:00 on 17 November 2026. Posted, faxed, emailed and late bids will not be accepted. Bidders must initial every page, avoid correcting fluid, and submit the bid in a separate sealed envelope marked with the bid number. The bid documents are available free of charge from the KZN Public Works website (www.kznworks.gov.za) and the e-Tender Portal (www.etenders.gov.za), although the advert also references a R330 document cost. Bidders should verify this before proceeding. Procurement enquiries should go to Mrs K. Ngcobo (066 535 7932, khosi.ngcobo@kznworks.gov.za), and technical enquiries to Mrs P.N. Mkhize (066 535 7797, Nelisiwe.Mkhize@kznworks.gov.za). This opportunity offers a substantial public-sector contract for a new government facility. It is well suited to established furniture suppliers that can source and deliver a large, varied range of items within a short timeframe.
This tender suits established office furniture manufacturers, distributors and merchants that can supply a large, varied range of furniture and appliances, deliver and assemble on site, and meet the financial thresholds. Bidders need CSD registration, a valid tax compliance PIN, working capital of at least 10% of the project value, and three distributor letters confirming a combined R500,000 credit facility. Appliance suppliers, such as those offering fridges and microwaves, may bid for those items. Consortia or joint ventures could be formed to cover the full item list, though each party must provide its own tax and CSD details. Black-owned EMEs and QSEs can claim up to 20 preference points with a sworn affidavit. Businesses that cannot quote for all items, or cannot meet the financial and delivery requirements, should not apply.
