Repair, servicing and rated load testing of four forklifts (Hyster, TCM and Mitsubishi) for South African Airways Technical's Non-Aircraft Fleet unit. Work covers electrical, safety, mechanical and testing items, with test certification. Closes 11 November 2026.
South African Airways Technical (SAAT) has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ SAAT/REP/0008) for the repair, servicing and rated load testing of four forklifts used in its Non-Aircraft Fleet business unit. The equipment comprises a Hyster 3-ton forklift (SAAT 117), a TCM forklift (LWK 240W), a second forklift (SAAT 218) and a Mitsubishi 4-ton forklift (LWH 772W). The purpose of the RFQ is to ensure that all units are inspected and maintained in line with manufacturer specifications, safety requirements and applicable regulatory standards, so that they are safe and fit for operational use.
The scope of work is itemised per machine. For the Hyster unit, the service provider must replace the right-hand globe/lamp, supply and fit a service kit, inspect or replace the strobe light, and carry out a rated load test. The TCM unit requires electrical fault diagnosis and rectification, battery inspection or replacement, reverse light repair or replacement, fitting of a missing hooter and motion alarms, a machine service and a rated load test. SAAT 218 requires a machine service, repair of the right-hand indicator, replacement of a missing mirror and a rated load test. The Mitsubishi unit requires inspection, repair or replacement of the ring gear, a machine service and a rated load test. Each machine must be issued with applicable test documentation once repairs are complete and safe function is confirmed.
Bidders must meet several critical criteria, failing which they will be disqualified. These include proof of relevant accreditation, registration or authorisation where applicable; demonstrated relevant experience in forklift diagnostics, inspection and maintenance (the RFQ states "2", which should be read as a minimum number of years, and bidders should confirm this); qualified and competent technicians with forklift systems experience; a valid Letter of Good Standing from the Compensation Fund (COID); a valid forklift inspection or test certificate under the OHS Act 85 of 1993 and the Driven Machinery Regulations; calibration certificates for testing equipment; and valid Public Liability Insurance. Evaluation is split 80/20 between price and B-BBEE preference points, which include specific goals for black ownership, disability ownership and women ownership. Required documents include a SARS tax clearance certificate, a valid B-BBEE certificate, SBD 1, SBD 4, and CIPC documents. Quotes are valid for 90 days and must be emailed by 10:00 (GMT+2) on 11 November 2026, with questions sent by 9 November 2026. Note that the RFQ background refers to "aircraft maintenance jacks and stackers", while the scope of work lists forklifts. Interested bidders should seek clarification on this point before submitting. The documents indicate the tender is currently in draft status, and SAAT reserves the right to award in whole or in part or not at all.
Forklift repair and maintenance companies, OEM-authorised or franchised service dealers, and mechanical and electrical workshops with forklift inspection and load-testing capability. Applicants should hold valid OHS Act forklift test certificates, calibrated testing equipment, a COID Letter of Good Standing, public liability insurance, SARS tax compliance and a valid B-BBEE certificate. Businesses with black, disability or women ownership may benefit from the preference points. Small and medium enterprises that meet the technical and compliance criteria are well placed to apply. Quotes must be submitted by 10:00 on 11 November 2026.
