Airports Company South Africa seeks suppliers to deliver four OEM-backed trolley pushing machines for Cape Town International Airport, including batteries, a charging system, delivery and a 3-year warranty. Bids close 10 November 2026 at 12:00 and must be submitted by email.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has issued a Request for Quotation (RFQ 74373) for the supply, delivery and commissioning of trolley pushing equipment at Cape Town International Airport (CTIA). The Terminal Operations Trolley team relies on mechanical equipment to move passenger luggage trolleys, which are otherwise handled manually, so the equipment must be able to push up to 30 trolleys in a single line, both inside and outside the terminal building. The pricing schedule requests four trolley pushing machines, four full battery sets, one 220V charging point, delivery, and a three-year warranty. Successful bidders must test and verify each unit on delivery to confirm it is operational.
The technical specification calls for a heavy-duty continuous motor, maintenance-free deep-cycle 12V batteries, and an on-board 16A, 36VDC smart charger with automatic shut-off and maintenance charge mode. Each machine must deliver up to 12 hours of continuous use on a single charge and offer multiple hitching options to connect to passenger trolleys. Required safety and operational features include a strobe light, protective handlebar design, ergonomic thumbwheel throttle, key switch security, robust emergency stop button, audible reverse warning, weather-resistant connectors, non-marking pneumatic tyres, a minimum 120mm ground clearance, and displays for battery discharge status and working hours. Remote electronics must be isolated from the battery components. Bidders must also specify their standard vehicle safety features.
Evaluation follows a staged process. Stage 1 is mandatory and requires proof that the bidder is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or an OEM-authorised supplier, a detailed warranty clause, a completed pricing schedule, and safety feature specifications. Stage 2 scores functionality out of 100, with a minimum threshold of 80 points: OEM status or authorisation (30 points), a detailed warranty (30 points), and up to three signed references for similar work completed in the last five years (40 points). Stage 3 evaluates price and B-BBEE preference under the 80/20 system. Bidders must also submit a valid Tax Compliance Status PIN, a Central Supplier Database (CSD) report, a B-BBEE certificate or affidavit, SBD forms, a declaration of interest, and an acceptance of terms. Prices must be quoted exclusive of VAT and remain valid for 120 business days. Bids must be emailed to acsarfq@airports.co.za by 10 November 2026 at 12:00, with clarification queries accepted until 6 November 2026 at 16:00. A non-compulsory onsite briefing takes place on 27 October 2026 at 10:00 at the Cape Town International Airport Conference Centre.
This tender suits Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and OEM-authorised distributors of battery-powered airport ground support or materials handling equipment, particularly those able to supply, commission and service trolley pushers in South Africa. Bidders should be able to provide written OEM authorisation, a detailed three-year warranty, genuine spare parts access, and at least three signed references for similar projects completed within the last five years. Businesses must be registered on the CSD with a valid Tax Compliance PIN and should hold a B-BBEE certificate or affidavit to claim preference points. General trolley resellers, or suppliers unable to meet the OEM and functionality thresholds (minimum 80/100), are unlikely to qualify.
