Supply and delivery of a photomultiplier tube (PMT) assembly and detector slave for a Ludlum Model 53 walkthrough contamination monitor. Suppliers must be CSD-registered, provide firm pricing valid for 60 days, and deliver by end November 2026.
iThemba LABS, a multi-disciplinary research laboratory operated under the National Research Foundation, is seeking a supplier to provide two replacement components for a Ludlum Model 53 walkthrough contamination monitor. These monitors are installed at exit points in controlled radiation areas to prevent radioactive contamination from spreading to uncontrolled areas and the environment. One monitor, installed in 2023, is currently out of service because of a defective component. The required parts are the M 44-187 photomultiplier tube (PMT) assembly and the BD(C)-M 53/54 detector slave, one unit of each. Replacing these parts will restore the monitor to full operational status and maintain effective contamination control and regulatory compliance.
The Request for Quotation (RFQ) is issued under the Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act (PPPFA) and the Preferential Procurement Regulations, 2022, using the 80/20 preference point system: 80 points for price and 20 points for B-BBEE status and other specific goals. Quotations of R2 000 or more are subject to this system. Prices must be firm, inclusive of VAT, and valid for at least 60 days from the closing date of 20 November 2026 at 11:00. Bidders must provide a firm delivery period, a Central Supplier Database (CSD) summary report, a valid tax compliance PIN, and a B-BBEE certificate (SANAS-accredited) or sworn affidavit if claiming specific goals. The bidder must also complete Standard Bidding Document forms SBD 4 (Bidder's Disclosure) and SBD 6.1 (Preference Points Claim). CSD registration is compulsory, and bids from unregistered suppliers will not be considered. Late submissions will not be accepted. Quotations should be emailed to scm2@ilabs.nrf.ac.za, and delivery is required to iThemba LABS, Old Faure Road, Faure, 7131, by the end of November 2026. Payment terms are 30 days from invoice, in line with the requirements of a Schedule 3A public entity. Shorter payment terms may be offered, but the supplier would then be asked to provide a payment guarantee.
This is a small, time-sensitive procurement that suits specialist suppliers of radiation detection equipment, OEM distributors for Ludlum or comparable nuclear instrumentation, and authorised service providers who can source genuine or certified replacement components quickly. The requirement is for specific, technically defined parts, so suppliers should confirm compatibility with the Model 53 monitor, include any OEM or supplier certificates that support their offer, and state realistic lead times that meet the November 2026 deadline. Technical enquiries should be directed to the SCM department at the email address above.
This tender suits suppliers of scientific and radiation detection instrumentation, authorised Ludlum or comparable OEM distributors, and specialist technical suppliers of nuclear or laboratory spare parts. Businesses must be registered on the Central Supplier Database, hold a valid tax compliance PIN, and be able to supply a firm price valid for 60 days, inclusive of VAT, with a firm delivery date by end November 2026. Small and medium enterprises, and businesses that are at least 51% black-owned, women-owned, youth-owned, or owned by persons with disabilities, may benefit from the specific goals points. Generalist suppliers without access to genuine or certified replacement parts for radiation monitoring equipment are unlikely to be a good fit.
