Overview

Summary

Supply, delivery, installation, commissioning, maintenance and operator training for an inert atmosphere glovebox for NECSA, South Africa's nuclear energy corporation. Bidders must meet SHEQ requirements and provide a tax clearance certificate. Closes 2 December 2026.

Detailed Description

The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) is seeking a service provider to supply, deliver, install, commission, maintain and provide after-sales support and training for an inert atmosphere glovebox system. Inert atmosphere gloveboxes are sealed enclosures that allow materials to be handled in a controlled, non-reactive environment, typically using nitrogen or argon, and are used for work that is sensitive to oxygen or moisture. The tender is governed by NECSA's Technical Specification (AC-ADM-SPE-26001), which sets out the detailed technical requirements for the system. Bidders should review this document carefully before preparing their submissions, as it defines the equipment performance, configuration and acceptance criteria.

The scope covers the full project lifecycle. The successful bidder must deliver the glovebox to NECSA's site, install and commission it, and demonstrate that it operates to specification. The contract also includes maintenance and after-sales support, along with training for NECSA personnel on safe and effective operation of the system. Because NECSA operates in the nuclear sector, bidders must comply with its Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) policies, including the Alcohol and Drugs Control Procedures. Any employees who will have access to NECSA information must be briefed on Section 51 of the Nuclear Energy Act, 1999 (Act No. 47 of 1999), and sign confidentiality agreements. Bidders must also sign NECSA's Confidentiality Agreement.

Under NECSA's standard Terms and Conditions of Contract, the goods must be new, unused and of current models, with a warranty of 12 months from acceptance at the final destination, or 18 months from shipment, whichever ends first, unless the Service Level Agreement specifies otherwise. Payment is made within 30 days of an accepted monthly statement and invoice. NECSA may retain 10% of the contract value until acceptance is certified. Deliverables are subject to a seven-day evaluation period. Bidders must submit an original tax clearance certificate from the South African Revenue Service before award, and must give preference to Black Empowerment Companies when subcontracting. The tender closes on 2 December 2026, and bidders should use the Standard Bidding Documents (SBD) and Main document to prepare their submissions.

Suitable Businesses

This tender is suited to suppliers and authorised distributors of inert atmosphere gloveboxes or similar controlled-environment laboratory equipment, including original equipment manufacturers and their accredited local agents. Engineering and technical services firms with experience in laboratory installation, commissioning and maintenance, and companies capable of providing local after-sales support and operator training, are also suitable. Bidders should have experience working in regulated or nuclear environments, or be prepared to meet NECSA's SHEQ and confidentiality requirements. Before applying, businesses must hold a valid SARS tax clearance certificate, be prepared to give preference to Black Empowerment Companies for any subcontracting, and be able to meet the technical specification in full. Businesses that cannot provide ongoing maintenance and support in South Africa should consider partnering with a local service provider.
