Eskom is offering two scrapped MVA transformers (rated 10 MVA and 5 MVA) at its King William's Town Warehouse for purchase, collection and removal. Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, through its Investment Recovery section, invites offers to purchase, collect and remove two scrapped MVA transformers stored at the King William's Town Warehouse in the Eastern Cape. The transformers are listed as one 10 MVA unit and one 5 MVA unit. Each unit will be auctioned separately, and the final bid price is calculated per item excluding VAT. The successful tenderer must pay in full for the allocated batch upfront, with payment to Eskom due no later than five days after the sale date. Collection must be completed within 7 working days of the approved work instruction, and the buyer must obtain a permit to remove and transport the equipment before release. Eskom gives no guarantee or warranty on the condition or workability of the equipment. Bidders are expected to inspect the units at the site before tendering.
Attendance at the compulsory clarification and viewing meeting on 29 October 2026 at 11:00 at the King William's Town Warehouse is mandatory. Tenders from bidders who do not attend will not be evaluated. Bidders must confirm their attendance in advance and provide the name, position and contact details of each attendee. Offers must be submitted by email to Informaltendering@eskom.co.za, with the enquiry number OLT2128236 as the only text in the subject line, and all documents in PDF format. Late submissions will not be accepted. The mandatory returnables include a completed offer to purchase form with price schedule, a valid SARS Tax Clearance Certificate, a B-BBEE affidavit or verification certificate, a second-hand goods certificate from SAPS or a licensee, SBD 4 bidder disclosure, the Integrity Pact declaration, CIPRO registration documents, ID copies of directors, CSD registration, and a valid COIDA letter of good standing. Technical returnables include a technical inventory list, a method statement based on the scope of work, and SHEQ and environmental documentation.
The contractor is responsible for the safe collection, handling, dismantling, transport and disposal of the scrap, and must supply qualified labour, certified plant, machinery, lifting and rigging equipment, pumps and transport. Bidders must hold an Environmental Waste Management Licence, or a municipal certificate, to transport hazardous waste between sites or provinces. Work must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993. All personnel must wear the minimum PPE on site, and access will be refused without it. Portable firefighting equipment must be on site during cutting work, and an Eskom permit is required before work begins. Oil spills must be rehabilitated and the site left clean, with no rubble or litter left behind. No accommodation will be provided on site. Eskom will not be liable for theft, damage or injury during removal.
Evaluation is based on price (80%) and B-BBEE status (20%). The technical evaluation has two phases: a desktop assessment and a site visit inspection. It considers the contractor's technical and mechanical capability, industry experience, ethical track record under the Second-Hand Goods Act, yard and site cleanliness, oil spill kits, firefighting equipment, the separation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, safety and environmental policies, COIDA status, trucks and equipment, and whether the bidder processes scrap or only acts as an agent. Eskom reserves the right not to accept the lowest or any offer, and offers remain valid for 90 days from the closing date. Bidders with an open non-conformance or a default on an existing or expired Eskom contract will be disqualified.
