Catering Services at Power Station

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd has invited tenders for the provision of catering services at the Majuba Power Station canteen in Mpumalanga for a period of five years. The contractor will be responsible for preparing and serving meals daily to employees and visitors, operating from the station's fully equipped site kitchen and dining hall. Key requirements include preparing food according to a set menu, serving meals at the dining hall and special venues such as training rooms and boardrooms, and maintaining strict food safety, storage, and hygiene standards. The service operates 365 days a year, with a core catering team of 11 people across two shifts, supported by up to 10 ad-hoc waiters on request. Serving volumes are approximately 500 people per day on weekdays and around 65 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays. The contractor must also supply and deliver prepared emergency preparedness meals on short notice (3-hour lead time), manage food deliveries that meet specified refrigeration and vehicle standards, and use Eskom's catering management system.

Bidders must demonstrate compliance with extensive safety and quality obligations, including Eskom's Life-Saving Rules, the OHS Act, food safety regulations, ISO 9001 quality management, and ISO 14001 environmental requirements. Mandatory returnables include a health and safety plan, costed OHS management, a baseline risk assessment, COIDA good standing, CSD registration, and a signed Form A quality acknowledgement. Functionality is scored against qualifications, location, relevant experience, past performance and safety certifications, with a minimum threshold of 90%. Price is evaluated on an 80/20 or 90/10 preference point system, and specific goals are scored for B-BBEE status. Successful bidders will also be required to meet SDL&I obligations, including local recruitment from the Dr Pixley Ka Seme municipality and Mpumalanga, skills development, and quarterly reporting, with a penalty of 2.5% of contract value for non-compliance.

For the successful contractor, this represents a long-term, stable five-year contract with a major state-owned energy utility and recurring daily revenue.
