Environmental Management Framework Development

The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development is inviting bids for the development of an Environmental Management Framework (EMF) and Activity Exclusion Standard for the Chris Hani District Municipality. The project aims to facilitate sustainable development by integrating environmental considerations into municipal planning processes, ensuring compliance with the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and its regulations. The successful service provider will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive literature review, stakeholder engagement, and the creation of a strategic management plan that identifies environmental control zones and outlines the desired state of the environment.

The scope of work includes an inception workshop, status quo analysis, identification of opportunities and constraints, and the development of a GIS-based Environmental Information Management Tool. Additionally, the service provider will be expected to conduct public participation processes, ensuring that the voices of all relevant stakeholders are included in the development of the EMF. The ultimate goal is to streamline environmental authorization processes, improve service delivery, and enhance environmental compliance within the district.
