Hiking Trail Marking and Maintenance Services

The National Museum, Bloemfontein, which governs the Oliewenhuis Art Museum, is seeking a suitably qualified service provider to undertake a once-off professional marking, inspection and upgrading of the hiking trails at Oliewenhuis Art Museum, 16 Harry Smith Street, Waverley, Bloemfontein. The project aims to ensure that the hiking routes are clearly marked, safe and easy to use, supporting responsible visitor access and the Museum's mission to provide enjoyable heritage experiences through conservation and education.

The scope of work covers four hiking trails. Trails must be marked clearly according to the Museum's supplied map, using durable markings that resist heat and sun. The service provider is also required to clear and neaten the trails by removing brush and overhanging vegetation, secure existing steps, and replace or rebuild steps where necessary. In addition, four resting spots must be created, one per trail at a lookout point, each furnished with a two-seater metallic or recycled plastic bench. Bidders must include all transport needed to complete the work on site.

Bidders must attend a compulsory briefing session on 3 November 2026 at 10:00 at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum. Quotations must be submitted via the tender box at the National Museum, 36 Aliwal Street, Bloemfontein, by 12:00 on 10 November 2026, and must be VAT-inclusive, valid for at least 90 days, and accompanied by a signed SBD 4 form, a completed price schedule, a CV and relevant qualifications, at least one signed reference letter, proof of CSD registration, CIPC registration documents and a valid SARS tax compliance PIN. A BBBEE certificate or declaration is optional but earns preference points. Evaluation uses an 80/20 price-to-preference model, where preference points cover B-BBEE status, Free State-based businesses, and ownership by youth, women and people with disabilities. Providers in tax non-compliance may be given a seven-day grace period if they are the preferred bidder.
